When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.
The pain of losing a loved one is indescribable. The second you realize someone is gone forever, the world seems to collapse around you. There is a crushing pain in your heart, you feel like you can’t breathe, like someone has dropped you into a cavern of oblivion. There is a vast emptiness that engulfs you, and every second of every day, you miss them. In that moment, you have two options: i) to wallow in the depths of despair and ii) to make them the greatest gift of your life.
When you are grateful for whatever little time you had with the person you have lost, you tap into this reserve of inner strength you never knew you had and that begins to inspire you. Sometimes, it inspires you to do extraordinary things that you didn’t think were possible before. Nada and Sameer lost their beautiful baby girl Rehma Sabir unexpectedly and quite tragically only two days after celebrating her first birthday last year. They took her memory and the joy she brought to everyone around her and turned Rehma (Rehma means mercy in Urdu) into a blessing for sick children across the world. Only 3 months later, they established the Rehma Fund for Children which supports charitable causes that help children and parents deal with the emotional trauma and stress of illness and hospitalization. The Fund aims to achieve this through making compassionate healthcare more accessible to sick children in need.
For families with sick children, we want to ease the stress and burden of illness with the reassurance that their children have access to the kindest and best possible care. We want to help families take their children, healthy and happy, home from the hospital. For the families who have to say goodbye, we want to help them gain whatever comfort they can from knowing that their children were well cared for in their final days. We experienced first hand what a difference a high quality healthcare environment made to our precious daughter and eventually to us when it came time to say goodbye. – Nada & Sameer
The Rehma Fund provides financial assistance for specific projects run by registered charities, led by passionate and dedicated people to giving the highest quality healthcare a sick child deserves. These charities are personally vetted by the founders of the Rehma Fund. Nada and Sameer want to give children a fighting chance at life. For those children who are destined for the heavens above, they want to make their last few days full of peace, love and joy. You can also join in honouring little Rehma’s memory and everything she has come to stand for by donating generously to the Rehma Fund via their website. May we all continue to be inspired by the strength and compassion of Nada and Sameer and even in our darkest hours, always be able to find the light.
